The Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Social Psychology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2019.

Candidates must have a PhD in Psychology, or a closely related field, by the date of the appointment or shortly thereafter. We are seeking candidates with an excellent research record in social psychology. Although we are especially interested in candidates who take a biological approach to social psychology (e.g., incorporating methods from neuroimaging, electrophysiology, endocrinology, genetics, etc.), our main focus is on research excellence. We will therefore consider applications from all candidates with a background in social psychology, broadly construed.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program. They will have a record of scholarly accomplishment including publications in leading academic journals and/or with leading academic presses, or will provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated in a research pipeline that is at a high international level, presentations at significant conferences, awards for work in the field and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing. They must have demonstrated excellence in teaching. This can be demonstrated through strong endorsements from referees and a teaching portfolio that includes a coherent teaching philosophy statement that is linked to excellent pedagogical practice, teaching accomplishments, and either very strong course evaluations or demonstrated superior performance in other teaching related activities, including performance as a teaching assistant, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, or excellent conference posters/presentations.

The successful candidate must also demonstrate excellence or provide evidence of readiness as a research supervisor, as they will be expected to undertake undergraduate and graduate research supervision and teaching, and to perform standard professional and administrative activities typical of a research intensive university-level department. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Psychology at UTSC includes faculty members with interests in behavioral neuroscience, clinical, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology. For more information about our department faculty and new initiatives in clinical science and brain imaging, please visit our home page: www.utsc.utoronto.ca/~psych.

Our department embraces the values of open science and strives for replicable and reproducible research. We therefore support transparent research with open data, open material, and pre-registrations. Candidates are asked to describe in what way they have already pursued and/or plan to pursue open science.

The appointment is at the University of Toronto Scarborough, which is a research-intensive institution with an interdisciplinary commitment, a multicultural student body, and a modern campus. The University offers the opportunity to conduct research, teach, and live in one of the most diverse cities of the world. The successful candidate will be a member of the tricampus Graduate Department of Psychology (www.psych.utoronto.ca) and expected to contribute to the vibrant tri-campus Social Personality Research Group (http://www.sprgtoronto.org/).

All qualified candidates are invited to apply online at http://uoft.me/1803593. Applicants should submit a complete and current curriculum vita, a statement outlining current and future research interests including a description of their involvement in/commitment to open science, three recent publications, and a teaching portfolio (to include a statement of teaching philosophy, teaching accomplishments, and excellent course evaluations or evidence of excellent performance in other teaching activities). If you have questions about this position, please email psychology-applications@utsc.utoronto.ca. All applications must be submitted online by Monday, October 15, 2018.

Submission guidelines can be found at: http://uoft.me/how-to-apply. We recommend combining attached documents into one or two files in PDF/MS Word format.

Applicants should also arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation (on letterhead, signed and scanned), addressed to Prof. Suzanne Erb (Chair), to be sent directly by the referee to: psychology applications@utsc.utoronto.ca by the closing date.

The University of Toronto is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from racialized persons / persons of colour, women, Indigenous / Aboriginal People of North America, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ persons, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas.

As part of your application, you will be asked to complete a brief Diversity Survey. This survey is voluntary. Any information directly related to you is confidential and cannot be accessed by search committees or human resources staff. Results will be aggregated for institutional planning purposes. For more information, please see http://uoft.me/UP.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
