The Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Social Psychology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2019.
Candidates must have a PhD in Psychology, or a closely related field, by the date of the appointment or shortly thereafter. We are seeking candidates with an excellent research record in social psychology. Although we are especially interested in candidates who take a biological approach to social psychology (e.g., incorporating methods from neuroimaging, electrophysiology, endocrinology, genetics, etc.), our main focus is on research excellence. We will therefore consider applications from all candidates with a background in social psychology, broadly construed.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program. They will have a record of scholarly accomplishment including publications in leading academic journals and/or with leading academic presses, or will provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated in a research pipeline that is at a high international level, presentations at significant conferences, awards for work in the field and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing. They must have demonstrated excellence in teaching. This can be demonstrated through strong endorsements from referees and a teaching portfolio that includes a coherent teaching philosophy statement that is linked to excellent pedagogical practice, teaching accomplishments, and either very strong course evaluations or demonstrated superior performance in other teaching related activities, including performance as a teaching assistant, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, or excellent conference posters/presentations.
The successful candidate must also demonstrate excellence or provide evidence of readiness as a research supervisor, as they will be expected to undertake undergraduate and graduate research supervision and teaching, and to perform standard professional and administrative activities typical of a research intensive university-level department. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
