Over Zero, a project of the Hopewell Fund, works to reduce, prevent, and create long-term societal resilience to violence. Our key focus is on developing strategic communication-based interventions that can undermine factors (such as Dangerous Speech) that increase division and people’s willingness to accept or participate in group-targeted harm. To develop these interventions, we bring together insights and expertise from diverse sectors - including cognitive neuroscience, social and behavioral psychology, political science, sociology, marketing, and communications.

The Manager of Interdisciplinary Research & Collaboration will work to ensure Over Zero remains abreast of research and findings across relevant disciplines and sectors and appropriately applies this knowledge to Over Zero programming. As part of this work, the Manager of Interdisciplinary Research & Collaboration will be responsible for positioning Over Zero at the cutting edge of knowledge acquisition in relevant fields, nurturing learning partnerships across disciplines, ensuring that that knowledge base is continually applied to Over Zero programming, and creating written products that share these learnings externally. The Manager of Interdisciplinary Research & Collaboration will identify, build, and maintain relationships and partnerships with interdisciplinary researchers, experts, and academic institutions.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

- Keep abreast of relevant cross-disciplinary learnings
- Identify key areas of expertise, research, and experts that are relevant to Over Zero’s programming
- Conduct research reviews (across sectors) and brief staff on relevant research
- Manage interdisciplinary research and collaboration
- Identify and manage research partners and consultants to conduct new research in partnership with local civil society organizations. This research will (1) respond to needs and gaps identified by local civil society organizations and interdisciplinary experts, and (2) prototype and test new intervention strategies.
- Identify, develop and manage partnerships with interdisciplinary experts, researchers, academics and academic institutions.
- Integrate the latest knowledge and research findings into Over Zero programming
- Work with Over Zero team to incorporate new research and findings into training materials, strategy support to civil society organizations, and pilot projects
- Work with Over Zero team to develop monitoring and evaluation plans for programming
- Contribute to thought leadership, including writing and publishing papers, blog posts, and articles

Requirements:

The Manager of Interdisciplinary Research & Collaboration should have expertise in at least one relevant discipline, and should be committed to working across disciplines. They should have experience conducting and coordinating research, and should be passionate about Over Zero’s goal of preventing and creating long-term societal resilience to violence. The Manager of Interdisciplinary Research & Collaboration must be able to complete each specific duty described above successfully.

Minimum qualifications:
- Advanced degree in relevant field (especially cognitive neuroscience, social or behavioral psychology)
- Experience working on, understanding, and/or preventing inter-group violence
- Passion for preventing inter-group violence
Interest in learning from multiple disciplines

Minimum competencies:
- Excellent interpersonal communication
Strong written communication skills
- Flexible and adaptive to manage shifting priorities and deliver results
- Proactive approach to solving problems
- Team player

Preferred qualifications:
- Experience applying research in the field
- Experience managing partnerships or relationships
- Fluency in a language other than English
