Position starts: August 1, 2017 The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy seeks an exceptional colleague to join the faculty of the first school of its kind. The School is particularly interested in research on philanthropic fundraising, but there is also a broader interest in excellent research and teaching that will advance the field. The incumbent will conduct research and facilitate the translation of new knowledge into improved practice; create a thriving intellectual community to attract outstanding students to research and research-informed practice; expedite the assimilation of new findings to provide direct instruction to practitioners; and share emerging knowledge with practitioners worldwide through conferences, specialized training and publications. This position is a 10-month open rank tenured or tenure-track faculty position. Candidates should have a significant record in the area of philanthropy research, preferably fundraising, though any relevant research with broad impact is highly valued. The duties of the Professor of Philanthropic Studies will include teaching and mentoring students as well as conducting research, publishing, and providing service to the School, campus, and the field of Philanthropic Studies. The school has a preference for teaching required fundraising courses and expanding the fundraising research agenda. Located on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy builds on the strength of thirty years of research, training and outreach activity. Collaborating closely with the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the IU School of Liberal Arts, among others, the Lilly Family School’s twenty core and over thirty affiliate faculty members draw on an expansive and collegial community of scholars and practitioners from a multiplicity of disciplines devoted to the serious study of philanthropy. Degree programs include the PhD, MA, and BA degrees in Philanthropic Studies. The School hosts eight chairs in various areas of philanthropy, a robust executive education arm through The Fund Raising School, the Women’s Philanthropy Institute and the Lake Institute on Faith & Giving. The School’s Research Department is known for researching Giving USA and The Philanthropy Panel Study among many other projects. IUPUI is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Institution M/F/D. Basic Qualifications A Ph.D. is required but the disciplinary field is open and may be in anthropology, economics, history, nonprofit management, political science, public policy, sociology, psychology or other related fields. Teaching and research experience in philanthropic studies and philanthropic fundraising or related area of interest is strongly desired.
