WEILL MEDICAL COLLEGE OF CORNELL UNIVERSITY; DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

The Division of Prevention and Health Behavior (DPHB) is recruiting two behavioral scientists for its faculty. The mission of DPHB is to conduct research concerning behavioral aspects of chronic disease risk and prevention. The division’s work focuses on both (1) identifying behavioral risk factors for major chronic diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, alcohol and drug abuse, and (2) developing and evaluating intervention strategies to prevent these health problems. For both positions, candidates should have a strong background in psychological theory related to health and prevention as well as skills in research design and multivariate statistical methods. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in psychology, public health, sociology, or a related field, with strong background in quantitative methods; Skills in data analysis and scientific writing as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications; Expertise in the use of PC SAS, HLM, and EQS.

Assistant Professor: This position requires experience or interest in drug and/or violence prevention research. Responsibilities include analyzing archived data on drug and violence prevention studies as well as developing new grant initiatives in the area of adolescent health behavior change.

Associate Professor: This position requires experience or interest in cancer and/or cardiovascular prevention research. Responsibilities include taking a leadership role in developing new prevention research projects through interventions designed to target the behavioral risk factors for these diseases. This might include interventions focusing on smoking cessation, weight reduction, exercise, and stress management in children, adolescents, and/or adults.
