TITLE: HONORS PROGRAM DIRECTOR, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR

HIRING UNIT: ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: SIUE seeks an Honors Program Director who will provide institutional leadership for an honors program that will attract and retain exceptional, diverse undergraduate students. The position will report to the Associate Provost for Academic Planning and Program Development. The Honors Program Director will teach two honors courses each academic year. The Director will (1) manage the current operations of the honors program; (2) develop and maintain best practice(s) within the honors program; (3) serve as Chair of a new Honors Advisory Council; (4) work with the Honors Advisory Council to refine the mission, goals, curriculum, and co-curriculum of the honors program; (5) coordinate the development and implementation of a redesigned honors program; and (6) develop and implement a plan to assess the effectiveness of the honors program to achieve stated goals. The Director will also create and execute a plan to seek external program funds and national scholarship funding for exceptional undergraduate students. Candidates for the position should exhibit knowledge of key issues and innovations in honors education and have experience engaging undergraduate students in challenging and enriching educational experiences.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Ten month appointment with potential for summer employment; with tenure.

SOURCE OF FUNDS: State

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with credentials, qualifications, and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Earned terminal degree from an accredited institution; teaching, scholarship, and service record appropriate for faculty appointment with tenure at the associate professor or professor level in an SIUE academic department at the time of appointment; evidence of a strong commitment to team building; commitment to diversity of students and faculty. EXPERIENCE WITHIN A UNIVERSITY HONORS PROGRAM IS PREFERRED.
