We seek a new member to join an exciting interdisciplinary team conducting grant-funded research designed to address gender and racial biases and enhance diversity within science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The team is lead by microbiologist Jo Handelsman, and currently includes social psychologists John Dovidio and Corinne Moss-Racusin and School of Management faculty member Victoria Brescoll, among others. Applicants should have or expect to complete a Ph.D. by September 1, 2013. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in experimental methodology, longitudinal designs, and web-based data collection (using programs such as Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, and/or Mechanical Turk), a desire to develop skills in intervention research, and an interest in empirical projects aimed at increasing the representation of women and racial minorities in STEM fields. The candidate should be able to work well independently as well as in a team and must be comfortable managing multiple competing deadlines and reporting relationships. The candidate should also express a desire to work from an interdisciplinary perspective and collaborate with colleagues across traditional academic divisions. Proficiency with advanced statistical techniques (such as multilevel modeling and structural equation modeling) is highly desirable, as is experience with implicit assessment techniques (such as the Implicit Association Test) using the program Inquisit. Demonstrated involvement in STEM-related projects and/or multi-site grant-funded research projects is ideal but not required. The position will begin in late spring or early summer 2013.
