Position: MediaLab and DirectRT Software Specialist
Employer: Empirisoft Corporation, New York NY
Full-Time: 40 hours per week
Location: Can work here in New York, or remotely from home in other states. Note that some training time in New York (Manhattan) will be necessary.
Start Date: As early as January, 2013 (flexible)
Duration: At least 24 months. Open for extended, permanent and advanced positions.
Salary: $80,000/year
Background
Since 1998, Empirisoft has been a leading developer of software and hardware for experimental psychological, physiological, and behavioral research. MediaLab and DirectRT are licensed in over 2500 labs in 1100 universities and colleges in over 70 countries around the world. We have grown quickly and must expand our capacity to help everybody who uses our software—especially in terms of providing timely and helpful answers to support questions. For this purpose, we are offering a new two-year, full-time post-doctoral job opportunity that can be performed here in New York City, or remotely from one’s current place of residence.
Position Description
The primary responsibility of this position will be to help others use MediaLab and DirectRT. This will involve dealing directly with users from all over the world. Support often involves helping colleagues with design challenges, explaining program features, offering “work arounds” when obstacles are encountered, creating short samples for illustrative purposes, and so forth. Candidates will not be expected to respond beyond their skill level—but will be encouraged to increase their skill level over time. We have recently implemented an online “case ticket” system that keeps all of the issues organized and linked where applicable. The successful candidate will be taught how to use this collaborative online system to view case histories, quickly answer questions, solve problems efficiently, and to escalate issues when necessary.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who are skilled with both MediaLab and DirectRT. Successful applicants should be able to create short sample experiments to demonstrate features and to solve design problems. Ideally, candidates will have substantial experience helping others with MediaLab and DirectRT to accomplish tasks and solve problems. In general, the position will be best suited to those with a talent for creative problem solving and a passion for helping others.
Ideal Candidate Description
• High level of skill with both MediaLab and DirectRT
• Excellent written/verbal communication skills
• Experienced in helping new users to learn and solve problems
• Thorough knowledge of the MediaLab and DirectRT user manuals
• Good understanding of experimental design
• Comfortable with the Windows OS and dealing with technical issues
• Experienced with the Advanced Features of MediaLab
• Experienced with using Custom Items in MediaLab
• Experienced with Microsoft Excel and SPSS
• Experienced with the Empirisoft Online Support Forums
Funding Opportunity
Funding is currently available for one full time position which can begin as soon as January and no later than April of 2013. The position will remain open until a suitable candidate can be found. The position is open for annual renewal and provides for year-round funding. Possibilities are also open for permanent employment and advanced positions.
