Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences is a centre of knowledge focusing on individuals and society. The faculty studies issues relating to human behaviour, the relationships between people, and society as a whole. This includes the study of how people function under normal circumstances, but also of the problems encountered by individuals or groups, and how these can be resolved or prevented. The Department of Psychology is part of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, and offers bachelor's and master's programmes in both Dutch and English to over 3000 students:

The Department currently employs 61 FTEnured or tenure track faculty and is expanding to meet a growing student population. Faculty members are expected to spend 50% of their time on teaching and 50% on research.

Job Description

The Department of Psychology at the University of Groningen invites applications for a tenure track position in Organizational psychology. The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level, but appointment at a higher level may be considered for suitably qualified applicants. Candidates with backgrounds in Social/Organizational Psychology and Personality/Personnel Psychology are of particular interest, but also candidates with other areas of expertise are encouraged to apply.

The research in Organizational psychology is embedded in the research programme Interpersonal Behavior. The group plays an active role in the local Graduate School for Behavioral and Social Sciences as well as the national research school Kurt Lewin. The research programme focuses on social-cognitive and individual difference factors underlying human behavior in organizations. Within the programme, researchers rely on field studies as well as on laboratory experiments. They publish their work in internationally visible, peer-reviewed journals in the areas of organizational psychology, management, social psychology, and personality, and actively participate in professional societies and conferences.

The successful candidate gives active support to the further development of the research programme Interpersonal Behavior. The Organizational psychology group shares responsibility for the Bachelor's degree programme in Psychology, the one-year Master's degree programme in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology, and the two-year Research Master programme in Behavioral and Social Sciences, specialization Social & Organizational Psychology. The successful candidate teaches courses in I/O Psychology, supervise Master's and PhD students, and plays an active role in the response to current and future developments in the teaching of I/O Psychology.

Qualifications

-- A relevant PhD (preferably in Psychology)
-- Publication record in international journals
-- Experience and interest in teaching
-- Excellent command of the Dutch language (or a willingness to learn the language)
-- Excellent command of the English language
-- Ability to attract funding.

Conditions of Employment

The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience between minimum € 3,195 up to a maximum of € 4,374 (scale 11) or minimum € 3,872 up to a maximum of € 4,970 (scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position. The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a maximum of six years. Prior to the completion of the sixth year performance will be assessed. A positive assessment will lead to promotion to the rank of associate professor with tenure. After an additional six years, promotion to the rank of full professor is possible. Secondary benefits, based on the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities are excellent in general and include e.g. a pension scheme, flexible employment conditions and salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8,3 % of the annual salary.

Depending on the candidate's qualifications, appointment at the associate professor level can also be considered, in which case the salary will be adjusted accordingly.
