The Psychology Department at Wesleyan University has an opening for a tenure-track, assistant professorship in social psychology. Area of specialization is open, though special consideration will be given to candidates with interests related to social justice, gender, race, violence prevention, health, and/or sustainable living.
The candidate should have a research program that can incorporate undergraduates, and should be prepared to teach introductory social psychology, a department service course (e.g., introductory psychology, statistics, or research methods), and specialized courses in an area of expertise. Also welcome are interdisciplinary connections to fields such as anthropology, ethnic studies, sociology, women's studies, political science, environmental studies, and science studies. The normal teaching load is four courses per year. The department currently has 14 faculty in the areas of neuroscience, cognitive, developmental, psychopathology, social, and cultural psychology. There is a Masters and Postdoctoral Program and faculty contribute to Wesleyan's interdisciplinary programs in Neuroscience and Behavior, Science and Society, and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Wesleyan faculty have a strong commitment to scholarship and undergraduate teaching.
The appointment will begin July 2011.
