Job Announcement: Social Psychology of Sport

Applications are requested for a permanent, tenure-track nine-month academic appointment, at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the Sport Psychology program, School of Physical Education at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV.

The individual appointed to the rank of Assistant Professor in the social psychology of sport will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the social psychology of sport, teach an undergraduate course in sport sociology, serve as the advisor to the sport psychology undergraduate major's club, direct graduate student research, and seek extramural funding. Opportunities may also be available to teach a graduate course in research methods or in statistics.

The candidate must have an earned doctorate with training in the social psychology of sport and a record of research and scholarly publications in the social psychology of sport.

The salary range for this position is approximately $39,000-41,000.

West Virginia University is a land-grant comprehensive, doctoral institution of approximately 23,000 located in the scenic foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in Morgantown, West Virginia. The School of Physical Education is organized into five program units: Athletic Training, Athletic coaching Education, Physical Education Teacher Education, Sport Management, and Sport Psychology. The Sport Psychology program offers baccalaureate and doctoral degree programs with emphases in sport and exercise psychology. Complete credentials must be received by December 15, 2000. Preliminary screening of candidates will begin January 2, 2001, and will continue until the position is filled. The position is effective August 16, 2001, and is contingent upon the availability of funding.
