The individual is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students, and maintain an active program of research. Applicants at all ranks will be given consideration but preference will be given to hiring at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to one of the existing programs in the department: industrial/organizational psychology and cognitive psychology (including cognitive neuroscience). There are also interdisciplinary tracks within these two programs in human factors and human-computer interaction. Rice University in collaboration with the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center has initiated the Texas Program on Society and Health. This major interdisciplinary research program focuses on the social and behavioral determinants of health and disease. The primary appointment is in Psychology but the ability to contribute to this initiative will be viewed positively. Applicants from a variety of backgrounds are encouraged to apply for this position, including those trained in clinical, cognitive, community, human factors, organizational, and social psychology and those with interests in the neurobiological mechanisms associated with health and disease.
