| Postdoctoral Research Position | | | | | | | The Close Relationships Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at UCSB is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to begin on or about May 1, 2010. The initial appointment will be for one year but can be extended for a second year pending excellent progress toward project goals. The primary role of the postdoctoral researcher will be to plan and implement laboratory studies on social support and compassionate love in couples, with an emphasis on physiological processes (funded by the Fetzer Institute). Studies will include cardiovascular and neuroendocrine assessments, and one study will use virtual reality technology. Primary responsibilities include assisting in the development of study materials and procedures, overseeing data collection, scoring cardiovascular data, analyzing data, and writing manuscripts. The candidate will collaborate closely with Nancy Collins and other members of the research team (including Jim Blascovich, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students). In addition to collecting new data, the candidate will have the opportunity to analyze and write-up data from several large, existing data sets that include observational, diary, and neuroendocrine data from couples. Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Social or Health psychology (or a closely related field of psychology or neuroscience), experience with the measurement, scoring, and analysis of cardiovascular responses (using Biopac or similar equipment), and strong statistical and writing skills. Background in close relationships and/or the biology of stress/emotion is desirable but not required. Experience with neuroendocrine assessments or virtual reality technology is not required (training will be provided).
