| Director, Evaluation and Research Unit | | | | | Institution/Organization: | New York State Office of Children and Family Servi | Job Location: | New York, U.S.A. | Contact Person: | Susan Mitchell-Herzfeld | Date Posted: | October 13th, 2000 | Closing Date: | December 31st, 2000 | | | | | | | | Home Visiting Randomized Trial Senior Research Analyst The Evaluation and Policy Unit of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to work with a team of researchers evaluating the effectiveness of a home visiting program for expectant and new mothers in enhancing parent-child interaction, reducing child abuse and neglect, improving child health and development, and promoting parental life course development. A randomized trial is underway in three sites across the state. Sample intake is expected to conclude in the spring of 2001, when the sample size reaches 1,200. The treatment and control groups will be tracked until the target child’s second birthday using data collected from automated databases and in-home surveys of study participants. Job Responsibilities ·Creating and manipulating databases to store, track, and analyze data on research subjects, including defining and formatting variables, computing and recoding variables to be used in statistical analyses, merging data from various sources, and performing matches against administrative databases. ·Analyzing the reliability and validity of standardized measures. ·Using advanced, multivariate statistical techniques to assess the impacts of the home visiting program and to identify client characteristics and other factors that enhance or moderate its effectiveness. ·Preparing comprehensive technical reports and papers. Job Requirements 1. Master’s degree in a social science field. 2. 4 years of professional research experience in a social science field, which must have included all of the following: 3. Evaluating program impacts using experimental or quasi-experimental research designs; 4. Conducting research studies in the area of child welfare, health or development; 5. Use of advanced, multivariate statistical methods (e.g., multiple regression, logit and probit analysis, ANOVA) to assess program impacts and relationships among variables; 6. Measurement and scaling and reliability and validity testing; 7. Creation and manipulation of complex computerized data files for research purposes; 8. Using statistical software packages such as SPSS or SAS to perform quantitative analyses; and 9. Writing technical reports and papers summarizing research results and methodology. Salary and Benefits The successful candidate will be offered a one-year renewable contract. The project is expected to extend through October 2003. The salary for this position is $70,000 per year. No benefit package is available to contractors. This position is located in Albany, New York.
