We are seeking scholars with expertise in the analysis of institutional settings or public sites where questions of fairness, the distribution of resources, and the application of social control are contested and negotiated. Possible areas of expertise include (but are not limited to) examining the health care system as an agency or environment; the welfare system as an institution or set of institutions; agencies or programs within the juvenile justice system; traditional and/or alternative forms and forums of dispute resolution (including courts, mediation, and restorative justice programs); and community-based organizations or agencies that are structured around justice-oriented interventions. The position will strengthen the social psychology area's emphasis on the intersection of social justice and social policy and contribute significantly to UCSC's growing emphasis on social justice-oriented policy-based research and analysis across the social sciences (e.g., the Chicano/Latino Research Center; the Center for Justice, Tolerance, and Community; and the possible development of a School of Public Policy). We are looking for a scholar capable of teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses, and who is actively engaged in research with promise of continued research productivity. In addition to teaching courses on the psychology of social institutions, possible areas of teaching expertise/interest include topics in social psychology, social justice, statistics, and qualitative or quantitative methodology. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their research, teaching, and service. RANK: Assistant Professor (tenure track) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or related field completed by June 30, 2009. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate potential for excellence in research and teaching.
