 Postdoctoral Research Associate
Institution/Organization: Cornell University
Job Location: New York, U.S.A.
Job Type: Postdoctoral
Contact Person: Collin Payne
Date Posted: May 23rd, 2008
Closing Date: June 1st, 2008
Web Site: http://www.foodpsychology.cornell.edu/

Cornell University's Food and Brand Lab is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow for its team, starting on July 1, 2008. The Lab's focus is on improving the health and nutrition of consumers by better understanding what factors influence what we eat and how much we eat. It accomplishes this through the wide range of papers it publishes in leading journals in psychology, marketing, economics, and medicine; it also accomplishes this through outreach efforts.

The ideal team member we are looking for should have recently completed a Ph.D. in a social science area (such as social psychology, health psychology, marketing, biostatistics, or human nutrition). In addition, they would be skilled at multivariate data analysis (including data mining cross-sectional data sets), a good writer, fun, light-hearted, a really hard worker, and driven to have a positive impact on the world. The postdoctoral fellowship will be for two years. The first year will be what Cornell refers to as a Non-Specified Fellowship--which means there will be no specific grant you will be tied to, but you will instead be brought on a number of existing projects. There are no teaching requirements. Salary is competitive base on the notion every hour worked goes directly toward a publication (versus toward meeting grant requirements). Within your first year, we will work to find a specified grant for your second year. Specified grants will typically pay $36,000+ depending on the grant. As with Cornell faculty appointments, this appointment includes partially-subsidized health and dental insurance as well as access to campus facilities.

This fellowship would be an excellent opportunity for three types of individuals: (1) scholars (in any field related to food, psychology, nutrition, or marketing) who are looking to improve their publication record before going on the market; (2) scholars from psychology who are hoping to transition over to being a marketing professor; or (3) well-trained international scholars who wish to have a career at an American university.
