Psychology Position Announcement

California State University, Bakersfield, seeks to fill two tenure track Assistant Professor positions, in Social Psychology and in Experimental Psychology, beginning Fall 2001. The 12-member department offers a BA in Psychology (approximately 400 majors), an MA in Psychology (approximately 10 students), and a co-sponsored MS in Counseling Psychology. For additional information on the Department and the University, please refer to the Home Page at www.csub.edu/. Position 1: Social Psychology. Teach social psychology, a social psychology lab, research methods, and other courses in areas of specialization. The candidate may also teach graduate courses in such areas as advanced social psychology, quantitative methods, and/or research methods. Expertise with distance learning and web-based courses is highly desired. Position 2: Experimental Psychology. Teach courses in an area of specialization, such as learning, cognitive psychology, and/or biopsychology, and research methodology (all with laboratories). Other Responsibilities: The new faculty members will be expected to work collaboratively to help maintain a strong, student-centered program in psychology, both at the main campus and possibly at the University’s off-campus center in Antelope Valley. In addition to teaching and advising, the faculty member is expected to initiate and maintain an active research program, preferably one that involves students. To become tenured, the faculty candidate is required to develop a continuous record of achievement demonstrating successful teaching, active research/scholarship, and effective professionally-related service. Qualifications include (1) earned doctorate (or ABD, preferably with completion by September 1, 2001) in the area of specialization; (2) effective teaching, especially in the designated teaching areas; (3) potential for a successful research program; (4) potential for effective professionally-related service to the University or to the Community; and (5) commitment to the ethnically and culturally diverse population served by the University.
