| Research Assistant | | | | | Institution/Organization: | Center for Social Development and Education | Job Location: | Massachusetts, U.S.A. | Contact Person: | Karen Friedman | Date Posted: | February 5th, 2008 | Closing Date: | March 15th, 2008 | Web Site: | http://www.csde.umb.edu/ | | | | | | | | Research Assistant The Center for Social Development and Education is currently seeking a full-time research assistant to join a team of researchers involved in exciting and dynamic research related to people with disabilities around the world (e.g. China, Europe, Latin America, and Europe). Current and past projects focus on public attitudes, family functioning, employment, etc. This team works in collaboration with Special Olympics Inc. This research assistant position provides a great opportunity to expand research and statistical skills, write reports that apply research to policy debates, publish in academic journals, and present at national and international conferences. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigators and as part of the research team, the research assistant will help oversee the daily operations of several projects, schedule project activities, and assist in data collection, and coding, and data entry. It is also expected that the research assistant will help prepare written reports and papers summarizing study findings. Examples of Duties: The Research Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of ongoing research projects, including tracking correspondence and scheduling activities. The RA will be involved in gathering information from literature and other sources that will provide background for the projects. The RA will assist in project design, questionnaire development and testing. In addition, the RA will assist in data coding, data entry, and data analyses. The RA will be responsible for drafting recommendations to the project PIs and will assist in the preparation of manuscripts to be submitted for publication. The RA will perform other duties as specifically requested by the Project Director or the Center Director. Supervision Received: The RA will be under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigators. The RA must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Supervision Exercised: The RA will supervise graduate assistants. Salary Range: $32,000-$33,000 Minimum Qualifications: B.A. in psychology. Extensive coursework in research methodology and statistics is required. Prior experience as a research assistant and/or a thesis in a social science field is also required. Must have excellent writing skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software and with statistical software (SPSS) is required. Experience in research involving special populations is preferred.
