Dynamics of Change in Intergroup Relations***
The International Graduate College at University of Jena (Germany) supported and financed by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft awards two Post-Doc Positions
in Social Psychology/Social Cognition starting by January 2008 (for 2 years).
The International Graduate College (IGC) has been established in 2001 as a collaboration of research from four European centres in the area of intergroup relations: Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Germany), University of Kent at Canterbury and University of Sussex, (both UK), and the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium).
The scope of the research program is concerned with the antecedents, underlying processes and effects of change in the relations between social groups. The change perspective covers issues such as outgroup devaluation, intergroup discrimination and cooperation, tolerance towards outgroups and multicultural diversity. The successful candidates will be integrated in this international research cooperation. They are encouraged to develop autonomous research in the field of intergroup relations. Besides, they are expected to contribute to the training of PhD students. Post-Docs have also the opportunity to supervise research students, students that are in their advanced study period, who will work on small sized research questions related to the topic of the Post-Doc.
Applicants must have a PhD and should have a strong background in any area of social psychology, including social cognition. We further expect an excellent record in methods, either field studies or experimental. Experience in publishing in peer-reviewed journals is desirable.
The IGC provides assistance in the form of undergraduates working as research assistants. All participating units offer state-of-the-art facilities for the empirical research endeavors of the participants. In addition, a study program is offered with special seminars, workshops, summer schools and site visits to the collaborating units. The program language is English. Funding is available for research and traveling.
The fellowship amounts to between 1443 and 1545 Euro monthly depending on age (tax free, no insurance benefits), supplemented by 205 Euro depending on family status.
