Assistant Professor in Psychology (Permanent; no more tenure track posts at UL)

JOB SYNOPSIS
If you are seeking an academic career in an inspiring and cohesive Psychology Department that delivers excellent research, teaching, and societal impact, then the new multi-annual Assistant Professor position in our department should be of interest to you. The Department’s research profile is characterised by its expertise in the domains of social, health, clinical, and community psychology. Our research leadership is strongly reflected in the track record of successfully securing national and international funding, for example, four European Research Council (ERC) grants in the past five years. These successes are accompanied by the Department’s competitive publication and citation records, indicating that the Department is a national and international leader with enormous potential for research leadership in Europe and beyond. The Department has close to 600 students. It delivers various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and supervises approximately 40 PhD students. The Department is a leader in internationalisation, reflected in the high rate of international staff members and the number of international students. Applicants should have experience conducting high-quality research, as demonstrated by published articles in international ISI-ranked journals of great repute and a good pipeline of studies for publication. Evidence of high-impact publications and awareness of the potential impact of the publications beyond academia is expected. The successful candidate is expected to: teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on accredited psychology programmes, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research, undertake administrative tasks associated with an academic position and undertake excellent research.

JOB PURPOSE
Are you seeking an academic career in an inspiring and cohesive Psychology Department that delivers excellent research, teaching, and societal impact? If so, we want to draw your attention to a multi-annual Assistant Professor position in our Department within the Faculty for Education and Health Science at the University of Limerick, Ireland. The Department of Psychology was founded in 2007 and has grown to over 30 academics, five administrators, and two technicians. The Department has recently been ranked third (QS University Ranking) in the Republic of Ireland, reflecting excellence in research and teaching.
The Department’s research profile is characterised by its expertise in the domains of social, health, clinical, and community psychology. Our research leadership is strongly reflected in the track record of successfully securing national and international funding, for example, four European Research Council (ERC) grants in the past five years. These successes are accompanied by the Department’s competitive publication and citation records, indicating that the Department is a national and international leader with enormous potential for research leadership in Europe and beyond.
Applicants should have experience in conducting high-quality research as demonstrated by published articles in international ISI-ranked journals of great repute (i.e., Q1- and Q2-ranked journals) and a good pipeline of studies for publication. Evidence of high-impact publications and awareness of the potential impact of the publications beyond academia is expected. International experience or collaborations with international networks in the discipline domain are desirable. We especially encourage applicants with aspirations and/or experience to apply for research funding and create societal impact through research. The preparation and submission of grant applications for research funding will be expected as part of the assistant professor role.
The Department has close to 600 students. It delivers the BSc in Psychology, the BA in Psychology and Sociology, the Diploma in Psychology (online course), the MA in Psychology (Conversion Course), the MSc in Psychological Science (with an online option), the MSc Global MIND (Erasmus Mundus), the (new) MSc in Clinical and Community Psychology, and the Clinical Doctorate. In addition, the Department supervises approximately 40 PhD students and provides service teaching to programmes outside the Department. The BSc in Psychology, the BA in Psychology and Sociology, the MA in Psychology, and the Clinical Doctorate are accredited by the Professional Society of Ireland (PSI). The Department has received the Athena SWAN Bronze Award, and the departmental Equality, Diversity, and Integration (EDI) Committee monitors and advises on the management of the Department regarding EDI principles and actions. The Department is a leader in internationalisation, reflected in the high rate of international staff members and the number of international students (especially in the MSc Global MINDS and the MSc Psychological Science). Integrating international staff and students is very important to the Department; thus, it supports on- and off-campus activities (e.g., Wild Atlantic Way) that foster integration.
The successful candidate is expected to:
* Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on accredited psychology programmes.
* Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research.
* Undertake administrative tasks associated with an academic position.
* Undertake excellent research.
Essential Criteria:
* Primary degree in psychology (level 8NFQ) or equivalent.
* PhD in Psychology or a cognate discipline.
* Qualifications for membership in the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI)
* Experience and skills in teaching psychology in a third-level institution.
* Experience in teaching and supervision of students in undergraduate and/or postgraduate curriculum in psychology.
* Evidence of teaching experience in core areas of psychology, including research methods.
* Evidence of conducting excellent research and publishing in high-impact ISI academic peer-reviewed journals.
* Research area demonstrably aligned with or complementary to current research strengths of the department.
* Experience in undertaking administrative and academic tasks associated with an academic position.
Desirable Criteria:
* Demonstrate good teamwork and administrative skills.
* Consolidate and augment the teaching profile of the Department of * Psychology with expertise in research methods (including experimental methods), cognitive, developmental, health, personality, and/or social psychology.
* Experience in supervising postgraduate student thesis research.
* Provide evidence of conducting excellent research since being awarded the PhD and publishing the research in high-impact journals.
* Provide evidence of a research track record in experimental research, social psychology and/or health psychology.
* Engage in collaborative research within the Department, the (EHS) Faculty, and University.
* Demonstrate plans to attract external national and international research funding to support research in psychology.
