Unpublished Studies on Media and Stereotype Threat

Dear Colleagues,

Our work group at the University of Koblenz-Landau is conducting a meta-analysis on stereotype threat / stereotype lift effects based on media-related stimuli (e.g., newspaper articles, videos, comics, ads, election campaign posters, etc.). To avoid publication bias and to counteract the file drawer problem, we are currently looking for unpublished or soon to be published data, including unpublished data from theses, conference papers, etc.

To meet our inclusion criteria the studies should be conducted in an experimental design and should include the following:

* Independent Variable: at least a comparison between an experimental stereotype threat activating condition (blatant, moderate, or subtle) and a control group (neutral control or nullifying condition)
* Stereotype Threat Manipulation: media-related stimulus material, can be ‘real’ or created for the purpose of the study, e.g., newspaper articles, videos, comics, ads, election campaign posters, etc.
* Dependent Variable: at least one measure of performance (e.g., a performance test) or a proxy of domain identification (e.g., how much s.o. endorses being an engineer, leadership aspirations, decision making in domain relevant task, etc.)

If you have conducted some relevant work in this context, or know of any unpublished work that might be relevant, we would greatly appreciate to hear about it and include it in our meta-analysis.

Please contact us with any potentially relevant work
via email: appelm@uni-landau.de

If you have any questions or would like to share your ideas and thoughts with us, it would be a pleasure to hear from you. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Markus Appel and Silvana Weber
