Psychology Organizations and Conferences

     This page contains links to a variety of psychology organizations. If you are a student, you might consider joining some of these organizations as a way of building your résumé and learning more about topics of interest. Many groups will offer a discounted membership to you as a "student affiliate," and in most cases you'll begin receiving psychology journals, newsletters, conference materials, and other mailings.

Association for Psychological Science Has approximately 20,000 members and is the largest general psychology organization focusing mainly on research. The next APS Convention will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 27-30 of 2010. Membership Information

Association for Research in Personality Has over 400 members and publishes the Journal of Research in Personality. The next ARP annual conference will be held in Chicago, Illinois, on July 16-18 of 2009. Membership Information
Asian Association of Social Psychology Has roughly 400 members and publishes the Asian Journal of Social Psychology. The next AASP Biennial Conference will take place at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in New Delhi, India, on December 11-14 of 2009. Membership Information
Association of Black Psychologists Has more than 1,400 members and is devoted to advancing the profession of Black Psychology, promoting social change, and assisting Black communities and other ethnic groups. Membership Information
British Psychological Society Social Psychology Section An educational and professional organization founded in 1953. The next BPS Social Psychology Annual Conference will be held at the University of Winchester on September 7-10 of 2010. Membership Information
Canadian Psychological Association Social and Personality Section Has roughly 85 social and personality psychologists and maintains an electronic discussion list that members can join. Membership Information
European Association of Experimental Social Psychology Has more than 800 members and convenes a General Meeting every three years. The last General Meeting was held in Opatija, Croatia, on June 10-14 of 2008. Membership Information
Federation of Behavioral, Psychological and Cognitive Sciences A coalition dedicated to science advocacy, education, and communication. Members include the Society of Experimental Social Psychology and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. Membership Information
Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy Division 49 of the American Psychological Association. Has roughly 1,000 members and is open to both APA and non-APA members. Membership Information
International Association of Applied Psychology Has more than 2,000 members in more than 90 countries. The next International Congress of Applied Psychology will be held in Melbourne, Australia, on July 11-16 of 2010. Membership Information
International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology Has more than 800 members in 65 countries. The next International Congress of IACCP will be held in Stellenbosch, South Africa, on July 17-21 of 2012. Membership Information

International Society of Political Psychology An interdisciplinary organization with more than 1,000 members worldwide. The next Annual Meeting of ISPP will be held in San Francisco, California, on July 7-10 of 2010. Membership Information
Psi Chi A national honor society in psychology with over 1,000 chapters (see the List of Psi Chi Chapter Pages). Psi Chi offers a variety of national and regional conventions. Membership Information
Society for Judgment and Decision Making An interdisciplinary organization focusing on many different aspects of judgment and decision making. The next SJDM annual meeting will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 21-23 of 2009. Membership Information
Society for Personality and Social Psychology Has more than 4,500 members and publishes PSPB and PSPR. The next annual SPSP Conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 28-30 of 2010. Membership Information
Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues Has roughly 3,000 members and focuses on topics of societal concern. The next SPSSI Biennial Convention will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 25-27 of 2010. Membership Information
Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality A multidisciplinary professional society with more than 1,000 members. The next SSSS Annual Meeting will be held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on November 5-8 of 2009. Membership Information
Society for the Teaching of Psychology Has more than 2,000 members and publishes Teaching of Psychology. STP also maintains an Office of Teaching Resources in Psychology and sponsors APA and APS programs. Membership Information
Society of Australasian Social Psychologists Network of social psychologists in Australia and New Zealand. The last SASP Conference took place in Melbourne, Australia, on April 16-19, 2009. Membership Information
Society of Experimental Social Psychology Has more than 800 members and publishes JESP. The next SESP Conference will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 6-9 of 2010. Membership Information
