We are seeking to appoint several new Associate Editors for the Journal of Social and Political Psychology (JSPP) for a three-year term (2023-2026; renewable).
JSPP (https://jspp.psychopen.eu/) is a peer-reviewed open-access journal that is supported by public funding and does not charge author fees. It supports open science practices (see https://jspp.psychopen.eu/index.php/jspp/top) and publishes articles at the intersection of social and political psychology from different epistemological, methodological (quantitative and qualitative), theoretical, and cultural perspectives, and from different regions across the globe, that substantially advance the understanding of social problems, their reduction, and the promotion of social justice. The journal has an international editorial board (https://jspp.psychopen.eu/index.php/jspp/ed-board) and team of editors (https://jspp.psychopen.eu/index.php/jspp/editors).
Please send self-nominations no later than October 16th, 2023 to jspp.psychopen@gmail.com. Please also encourage others to apply who you think would be interested and qualified! We will start reviewing and accepting nominations on a rolling basis already prior to the deadline.
Your self-nomination should include:
(1) a brief statement of motivation and interests in the editorial position, experience with publishing and reviewing (or editing), as well as ability to commit to the workload (see below)
(2) a statement of expertise regarding theories and research topics, methods and analyses, and cultural contexts you are familiar with (for determining the scope of manuscripts you could handle)
(3) a curriculum vitae (CV)
We are open to nominations from candidates who hold a Ph.D. and work on any area of social and political psychology. We are particularly interested in receiving nominations of candidates from regions currently underrepresented in the editorial team, and in general aim to increase the diversity of our editorial team.
To fill some of the gaps in our coverage, we particularly welcome self-nominations of researchers working on one or more of the following topics/regions (non-exhaustive list):
—Global South: Especially Asian, South American, and/or African contexts
—Racism and race relations in North America and Europe
—Longitudinal methodologies, multilevel analyses, and large datasets
—Qualitative methodologies, especially less common forms of qualitative analysis such as work with visual data
—Epistemology, theory of science, interdisciplinary approaches
—Critical, decolonial, community psychology perspectives
—Collective action, political participation (including voting, civic engagement), social change, resistance
—Gender and sexuality, intersectionality
—Environmental issues, climate, and natural disasters
—Political ideology, neoliberalism, nationalism, populism, conspiracy beliefs
—Morality, emotions
Associate Editors are expected to handle on average one manuscript every month or two (around 6-8 manuscripts per year), and to be available for occasional additional consultation on desk rejections and biannual editorial meetings (online) as well as occasional online discussions about journal policies. Although we try to assign manuscripts to editors within their areas of expertise, this is not always possible; associate editors must also be willing to handle manuscripts beyond their specific areas of expertise. Because the journal is an open-access journal without publishing fees for authors, editors must also be willing to be more involved in proofreading and overseeing the copyediting process.
