INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE COLLEGE
“CONFLICT AND COOPERATION BETWEEN SOCIAL GROUPS“

The International Graduate College at University of Jena (Germany) awards one Fellowship for doctoral students starting by May 2006, or later (tenable for up to 3 years).

The International Graduate College has been established in 2001 as a collaboration of research from four European centres in the area of intergroup relations: Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Germany, University of Kent at Canterbury and University of Sussex, United Kingdom, and the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium. The scope of the research program is concerned with the antecedents, underlying processes and effects of change in the relations between social groups. The change perspective covers such fundamental issues as outgroup devaluation, intergroup discrimination and cooperation, tolerance towards outgroups and multicultural diversity. For a list of the pursued research projects and further information on the College including faculty, please look at

As part of the fellowship program all participating units offer state-of-the-art facilities for the empirical research endeavours of the participants. In addition, a study program is offered with special seminars, workshops, summer schools and site visits to the collaborating units. The program language is English.

The fellowship amounts 1103 Euro monthly (tax free, no insurance benefits), supplemented by 205 Euro depending on family status. Funding is available for research and traveling.

Applicants should have a strong background in Cognitive, Educational, Personality, or Social Psychology and hold one of the following degrees: Diplompsychologe or, where applicable, MA, MSc or equivalent. Fellowships are awarded competitively to applicants based on the quality of their academic work and preparation for doing research.

Applications should be addressed to Jörg Neumann, University of Jena, International Graduate College, Wildstrasse 1, 07737 Jena, Germany. Electronic applications (to joerg.neumann@uni-jena.de) are also welcome.

Please provide a Curriculum Vitae, a statement describing your research interests, a short outline for a research project that focuses on the issues covered by the IGC, and two letters of reference. If available, please attach manuscripts, preprints or reprints.

Review of applications begins on January 22, 2006, and will continue until an appropriate candidate is found.
