 Assistant Professor -- Social
Institution/Organization: University of Delaware
Job Location: Delaware, U.S.A.
Job Type: Tenure-Track
Contact Person: Sam Gaertner
Date Posted: October 11th, 2004

The Department of Psychology at the University of Delaware is seeking a Social Psychologist with quantitative expertise for a tenure-track Assistant Professor level position to begin in September 2005. Candidates should have a strong record of programmatic research, the ability to attract external funding, and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate level teaching.

As part of his or her teaching load, the candidate would be expected to teach graduate level statistics including multivariate analysis and one or more of the following: structural equation modeling, hierarchical linear modeling, or growth curve modeling and other longitudinal methods. The candidate’s research expertise within social psychology most desirably would utilize these advanced statistical approaches and could involve any substantive area within social psychology including social developmental, social cognition, organizational, cultural, as well as applied approaches to social problems.

This call for applications marks the continuation of a five-year plan to enhance the Department beginning with the opening of a $26M renovation of the Psychology/Biology Building in January 2003. The Department has identified "early experience and developmental processes" as a unifying theme and it is playing a central role in an Early Learning Center that involves a translational research effort within a day care and after school program. With the addition of this advertised position, we are seeking to strengthen our social program (specific research focus is open) as well as our quantitative expertise to compliment our research strength across all areas of the department (Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical, Cognitive and Social).

For more information about the Department, see our website: http://www.psych.udel.edu. Applicants should send a vita, reprints, a cover letter stating research and teaching interests, and three letters of reference to Sam Gaertner, Chair: Social Search Committee, Department of Psychology, University of Delaware, Newark, DE 19716. Inquiries can be made at (302) 831-2271, or by e-mail (gaertner@psych.udel.edu). On January 3, 2005 the committee will commence reviewing the applications. The curriculum vitae and letters of reference shall be shared with departmental faculty. The University of Delaware is an Equal Opportunity Employer which encourages applications from Minority Group Members and Women.
