SOCIAL/PERSONALITY

The Rutgers Psychology Department seeks to hire a Social/Personality/Organizational psychologist with a proven track record of research excellence. Although the position is for a tenure track assistant professor, an appointment at a more advanced level would be considered for an exceptional candidate. The Department seeks someone whose work focuses on one or more of the following areas:

I. Social Cognition. Applicants with expertise in any aspect of social cognition are welcome. We are especially interested in someone whose work focuses on dyadic relationships. In addition, candidates with expertise in cognitive psychology/cognitive science will be particularly attractive.

II. Personality/Self. Applicants with expertise in any aspect of personality psychology are welcome. We are especially interested in researchers whose work focuses on self and social identity (e.g., the role of the self in intergroup relations or in motivation and emotion; and/or research investigating cross-cultural differences in the construction and meaning of identity).

In addition to fitting either of the above descriptions, the ideal candidate will also have supplementary experience in one or more of the following areas: statistics (e.g., meta-analysis, structural equation modeling, complex ANOVA designs, hierarchical linear modeling, etc.), tests and measurement, health, development, evolutionary psychology, or neuroscience/biological psychology.

HEALTH

The Rutgers Psychology Department seeks to hire a Health Psychologist with a proven track record of research excellence. Although the position is for a tenure track assistant professor, an appointment at a more advanced level would be considered for an exceptional candidate. The department seeks someone whose work will stimulate the integration of psycho-social and biological factors in one or more of the following substantive areas:

I. Psychophysiological processes in physical diseases (e.g., infectious illness, cancer): Research identifying biological mechanisms that account for disease-related effects of psychological stress, coping, social relationships, and personality.

II. Health promotive and health-damaging behaviors (e.g., exercise, smoking, alcohol use): Research linking and/or leading to linkage of social, psychological, and biological mechanisms.

III. Adaptation to physical disease (e.g., cancers; cardiovascular diseases): Research on people's understanding, management, and adaptation to physical disease and treatment, and the effects of personal and social-psychological factors on these adaptive processes. Expertise in the genetic or neuropsychological factors in physical disease, and/or in the use of biostatistics and multivariate models used in health research, would be an additional plus.
