LECTURER (below the bar) in Psychology (2 posts); fixed terms

Salary scale: in Euro: 1,498 - 51,722 p.a.
(Less 10% and 1st point, for new entrants to the Public Sector)

Contract 1 – Start: 01/08/2011 Finish: 31/07/2016
Contract 2 – Start: 01/01/2012 Finish: 31/07/2014

QUALIFICATIONS:

Primary degree and postgraduate research degree in psychology. PhD in Psychology or imminent achievement thereof after taking up the post.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Department of Psychology at UL was established in 2007 and the successful candidate with contribute to the development of the Department. Applications are invited from candidates who:

--Teach at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

--Conduct research and publish in high quality academic peer reviewed journals.

--Attract external research funding to support research in psychology.

--Undertake administrative tasks associated with an academic position.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

The successful candidate must have:

-- A PhD in psychology or must provide evidence in the application for its imminent achievement when taking up the post.

-- Excellent research potential in terms of high quality publications in scientific journals and potential for securing research funding.

-- A publication record appropriate to the stage of career and experience and skills in teaching in psychology.

-- The ability to teach and supervise students in both the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum.

Desirable

Preference may be given to applicants who:

-- Can consolidate and augment the teaching and research profile of the Department of Psychology. That is, we especially welcome applications of candidates who can contribute to teaching and research in two or more of the following areas: social, economic, forensic, personality and political psychology. Expertise in research methods including psychometrics would also be beneficial.

-- Can demonstrate good team work and administrative skills.

TEACHING ASSISTANT in Psychology; fixed term: 9 months

Salary in Euro: 30,961 ¬ p.a. pro rata
(Less 10% for new entrants to the Public Sector)

QUALIFICATIONS:

A 2:1 undergraduate honours degree or above in psychology.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To contribute to Departmental teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

A 2:1 undergraduate honours degree in psychology. Candidates must have good interpersonal skills and must demonstrate an ability to teach students at undergraduate level. They must be able to teach in at least two core areas of undergraduate psychology. They will also be expected to assess coursework, mark examinations, and to demonstrate administrative skills in relation to the teaching obligations.

Desirable

A postgraduate qualification in Psychology. Preference may be given to applicants who can contribute to teaching in social psychology and in research methods. Experience of teaching at third level is preferred.
