To make a major contribution to the Department of Experimental Psychology's international research reputation and excellence in
teaching. The Department is '5' rated and has research groupings in Applied, Cognitive, Developmental, Health, Language, and Social Psychology. Applicants in any area of Social Psychology will be and applicants in Social Cognition are especially welcomed.

The University of Bristol

The University of Bristol is a research-based university of international standing. It was founded in 1876 as University College Bristol. In 1909 it received a Royal Charter from King Edward VII which enabled it to grant degrees under its own authority. Currently, there are approximately 10000 undergraduate and 2000 postgraduate students enrolled at Bristol. The University organizes its academic affairs in some 60 departments and 15 research centers which are arranged in 6 Faculties: Arts, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Social Sciences, and Science. Bristol ranks highly among British universities. In the most recent survey by The Times newspaper, Bristol was ranked 4th out of over 100 universities. The Department of Experimental Psychology

The Department of Experimental Psychology has 26 full-time faculty members. There are approximately 200 undergraduate and 60 postgraduate students enrolled in the Department. The Department achieved the top 5A rating in the 1997 Research Assessment Exercise conducted by the Universities Higher Education Funding Council. In the recent subject review carried out by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education the Department attained a score of 23 (out of 24), indicating excellence in teaching. Research in the Department is organized into the following areas: Applied Health, Developmental, Language, Memory, Perception and Action, and Social Cognition. The atmosphere in the Department is highly conducive to communication and collaboration across research areas. Furthermore, Bristol is located in close proximity to a number of other universities that have strong experimental social psychology programmes.

The Social Cognition group currently consists of 4 faculty members whose research interests span a number of areas such as attitudes and values, person and group perception, and memory. The group has dedicated lab space with both PC and Mac computers and has access to substantial participant panel that is maintained by the Department.
