The Psychology Department at MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY announces a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August, 2001 in one of the following two areas: COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY or SOCIAL-PERSONALITY PSYCHOLOGY. A Ph.D. in psychology is required by time of employment. Candidates who conduct basic research on applied problems in non-clinical settings are preferred and strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates capable of complementing current faculty research interests, and who have strong quantitative skills and prior teaching experience, are preferred. Faculty responsibilities include (a) maintaining a strong research program that involves students, (b) actively seeking external funding, (c) providing leadership in our graduate program, and (d) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Typical teaching load is two courses per semester. The department has been growing during the last few years, with the three most recent faculty hires arriving from Columbia University, University at Albany-SUNY, and Ohio State University. There are currently six tenure-track faculty, all research active and with external support (e.g., NSF, NIH, CDC) either currently or in the recent past. Faculty interests are in cognitive, learning, physiological, social, and industrial-organizational psychology. We have a research-oriented M.S. program in applied psychology that funds students who serve in a research apprenticeship role under the supervision of a faculty member. MSU is located in Bozeman, a city of 30,000+, in the northern Rockies. It serves over 11,000 students on an 1,170 acre campus and is only 90 minutes from Yellowstone Park. For a complete description of the University, Psychology Department, and surroundings, browse our website at www.montana.edu/wwwpy. Interested candidates should send their curriculum vitae, reprints or preprints, a cover letter indicating their research area, a statement of research and teaching interests, and also arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Dr. Charles A. Pierce, Search Committee Chair, Department of Psychology, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT 59717-3440. The deadline for completed applications is January 15, 2001. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. ADA/AA/EO/VET PREF.
