Applied Social or Social/Community Psychologist:

The Department of Psychology at Portland State University has a tenure-track opening at the Assistant or Associate Professor level beginning September 2001 or January 2002. The specific area of expertise within applied social or social/community psychology is open, but we are especially interested in applications from persons conducting field-based research addressing: cultural influences on self or social interaction; prejudice and discrimination; intergroup or intercultural relations; or social psychological aspects of ethnicity or multiculturalism. As an urban university PSU is committed to scholarship and community outreach relevant to the needs of urban, metropolitan areas. The Department of Psychology has a
strong applied research orientation with a commitment to looking at psychological problems in their systemic context. Our doctoral program in Systems Science/Psychology includes areas of specialization in Applied Social, Industrial/Organizational, and Applied Developmental Psychology. Qualifications include a doctoral degree in psychology (ABD also considered) and a demonstrated commitment to theoretically driven social psychological or social/community research conducted in field settings, as evidenced in dissertation or published research. Responsibilities for this position include productive social or community psychological scholarship in field settings, teaching in areas of expertise and departmental need at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising dissertations, theses, and student practica, and participation in faculty governance.
