The Department of Psychology at Denison University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Psychology. We seek a broadly trained Psychological Scientist whose work has an applied focus, and who has expertise in any of the following areas: child development, health, human factors, human sexuality, or social psychology.

We seek individuals who are deeply committed to education within the Liberal Arts tradition, and to helping undergraduate students to understand and appreciate psychological science and its applications. Working closely with students is a primary responsibility of the job, and we seek individuals who are motivated to educate and support students, inside and outside the classroom. As a department situated in the Natural Sciences at Denison, we strive to develop our students’ critical and scientific reasoning skills as well as to foster an engaged community of scholars.

Denison maintains a supportive environment for teacher-scholars who value both classroom and research excellence, and provides extensive support for its faculty, including negotiable start-up research funds, an annual professional development account, competitive professional development funding, and a one-semester research leave after a successful pre-tenure review. During the summer, Denison’s support includes research and housing stipends for the support of undergraduate research students, as well as faculty stipends. Research with students during the academic year is also supported with funding available from various internal sources. The college also offers a range of workshops and mentoring programs to develop our strengths as teacher-scholars.

Denison is located in the village of Granville, 30 minutes from Columbus, Ohio, the state capital, which hosts a wide range of cultural and artistic opportunities. Qualifications

The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field by start date (ABD will be considered as Instructor until Ph.D. is attained; Ph.D. must be completed within one year of August 2026).

The successful candidate will be able to teach a range of courses, including PSYC 100 (with a significant lab component), Research Methods and Statistics, an intermediate level elective and concurrent research course in the candidate's area of specialty, and intermediate or advanced electives within the psychology curriculum in the candidate’s area of specialty. The teaching load is 5 courses per academic year.

The successful candidate will be deeply committed to teaching excellence, and will demonstrate a strong dedication to mentoring students. The successful candidate will provide evidence of experience with and / or commitment to teaching psychological science using an evidence-based, inclusive approach to pedagogy.

We seek applicants who demonstrate the following qualifications: evidence of successful undergraduate teaching and/or evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence; a clear motivation to mentor undergraduates; evidence of research productivity in psychological science and the potential to develop a productive research program with undergraduates on Denison’s campus; a commitment to contribute actively to the growth of the Department and College.

We will consider the extent to which each candidate’s research perspective complements those currently represented in the Department.
