Requesting Data for Menstrual Cycle Meta-Analysis

Dear Colleagues,

Kelly Gildersleeve and I are conducting a meta-analysis (the second of two related meta-analyses) to evaluate evidence in the extant empirical literature for potentially detectable changes in women across the menstrual cycle. Please note that a study need not have been designed for the purpose of examining menstrual cycle effects to be eligible for inclusion in our analysis (and, in fact, we would ideally include data from studies that were not intended to examine such effects, in addition to studies that were designed to examine such effects).

If you are in possession of a dataset that includes each of the three components listed at the bottom of this email, we would greatly appreciate it if you would let Kelly know by contacting her at kellygildersleeve@gmail.com. This is the "last call" for data. We would like to have all data in hand by April 1st. We are particularly interested in unpublished and in-press data, though please feel free to also alert us to published data.

Please be assured that we will use any data you send us only for the purposes of this meta-analysis. We are happy to discuss our precise plans for your data prior to you sharing it with us.

Thanks for your assistance with this project!

Best Wishes,

Martie Haselton, Ph.D.

Please contact us if your dataset includes a, b, & c or if you have questions about the eligibility of your dataset:

(a) Naturally-cycling reproductive-aged women (post-pubescent women not using hormonal contraception who are not pregnant/breastfeeding and who are not peri-/post-menopausal)

(b) Information that could allow us to determine those women's position in the menstrual cycle (e.g., date of last menstrual onset, hormone levels)

(c) Self-ratings, 3rd party-ratings, researcher codes, or direct measurements of any of the following for those naturally-cycling women: physical attractiveness (general, face, or body), sexiness, desirability as a short-term or long-term relationship partner, scent pleasantness or attractiveness or sexiness or intensity, dance attractiveness, walk attractiveness or motion (e.g., hip sway), clothing attractiveness or provocativeness or revealingness or sexiness, voice pitch or attractiveness, face or body symmetry, apparent attractiveness-enhancement motivations or behaviors (e.g., their desire to shop or groom or go to a hairdresser or use makeup or purchase attractive/sexy clothing or wear the color red, time spent engaging in any of the aforementioned or related behaviors, reports of having engaged in these behaviors, etc.), flirtatiousness or receptiveness to others' attempts to initiate romantic involvements with them (e.g., their response to a request for their phone number), romantic partners' jealousy or possessiveness or attentiveness or lovingness, other people's responses to the naturally-cycling women that could plausibly indicate attraction to them (e.g., men's behavioral mimicry of them), or any other variables closely related to those listed here.

If you have any questions about the eligibility of your data, please do not hesitate to contact Kelly at kellygildersleeve@gmail.com.

Thanks again for your help! We appreciate it!
