SIPR Editor, 2015-2017 (inclusive)
Call for Nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for the next editor of Social Issues and Policy Review (SIPR), a journal of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). SIPR is published once a year. Eight volumes have been published, the most recent one in January 2014.

The mission:Social Issues and Policy Review (SIPR) provides state of the art and timely theoretical and empirical reviews of topics and programs of research that are directly relevant to understanding and addressing social issues and public policy. SIPR, like other review volumes (e.g., Annual Review of Psychology and Advances in Experimental Social Psychology) is formally considered a periodical. SIPR is not a thematic journal. Papers will be accessible and relevant to a broad audience and will normally be based on a program of research. Articles in SIPR will represent perspectives directly relevant to the psychological study of social issues and public policy.

SIPR volumes are nonthematic; that is, the papers within each volume focus on a variety of topics. Manuscripts may be invited by the Editor or submitted openly to SIPR, but all are peer-reviewed by an editorial board member or other appropriate expert.

Editorial tenure and skills:The Editor(s) will be expected to work with the current Editors as soon as s/he is appointed to solicit manuscripts. Note that currently SIPR has co-editors, although that is not a requirement. S/he will become masthead editor for three years starting in January 2015 and continuing until the end of 2017. The editor(s) will need scientific, editorial, interpersonal, and organizational abilities. He or she will advise authors of potential articles on their relevance to the journal as well as select an advisory board and peer reviewers to evaluate articles as they are submitted.

The Editor(s) will work with SIPR's publisher, Wiley-Blackwell, to ensure the timely publication of each issue; attend SPSSI Council meetings, and prepare various editorial reports. For information about SIPR, please go to the publication page of for SPSSI web page (www.spssi.org) and follow the links for SIPR. SPSSI members can obtain information about SIPR at:

http://www.spssi.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.viewpage&pageid=952

How to nominate:As part of the application process candidates should email a copy of their CV, a two-page statement describing their previous editorial experience, vision and views about the direction of SIPR, and names of two referees to Buju Dasgupta and Chris Crandall (dasgupta@psych.umass.edu, crandall@ku.edu), and copy Anila Balkissoon at SPSSI Central Office, abalkissoon@spssi.org. Include “SIPR Editorial Search” in the subject line. Self-nominations are welcome. Review of applications will start on April 1, 2014, and will continue until the position is filled.

Questions about this position may be addressed to the Committee Co-Chairs: Buju Dasgupta, at the University of Massachusetts (dasgupta@psych.umass.edu) and Chris Crandall at the University of Kansas (crandall@ku.edu).
