The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an expected start date of July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter.

The University of Toronto Scarborough is implementing a new Strategic Plan: Inspiring Inclusive Excellence. Consistent with the values and objectives in that plan, we especially welcome candidates who self-identify as Indigenous or those who have lived experience in Black or other racialized (persons of color) communities. This position is part of a cohort of similar faculty searches in Historical and Cultural Studies, the Centre for Critical Development Studies, and Political Science. New colleagues will have the opportunity to be connected with previous cohorts of faculty from under-represented groups, including those hired last year in four departments spanning the Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Psychology, or a closely related field, by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching within Social Psychology. This experience must include lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to excellence and engagement in pedagogical/professional development and practices, with clear indication of future ongoing development, and demonstrate an interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Excellence in teaching and pedagogy includes a combination of excellent teaching skills, creative educational leadership and/or achievement, and innovative teaching initiatives. These must be demonstrated in a teaching portfolio that includes teaching accomplishments, a compelling statement of teaching philosophy and goals, accompanied by a narrative that demonstrates how the candidate’s teaching practice aligns with their philosophy and goals, course syllabi, and teaching evaluations. Additional evidence of excellence in teaching can also include: documentation of excellent performance in other teaching related activities, such as conducting pedagogical research, supervising undergraduate research projects, awards and accolades, leading successful workshops or seminars, and/or presenting at conferences, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence. We seek candidates who value diversity and whose research, teaching, and service bear out our commitment to equity. Candidates therefore must also submit a statement of contributions to equity and diversity, which might cover topics such as (but not limited to): creative practice, scholarship or teaching that incorporates a focus on underrepresented communities, the development of inclusive pedagogies, or the mentoring of students from underrepresented groups.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
