The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) invites applications for a Visiting Faculty position (open rank) for its newly established Masters of Science program in Psychology. We seek Social Psychologists from a broad range of specializations, but preference will be given to those whose work focuses on culture, political psychology, organizational psychology, and social change. The appointment is for one year, starting September 2017, with a possibility for extension.

Founded in Doha, Qatar, and launching its first academic year in 2015, the DI is a non-profit and independent institute that responds to the needs of the Arab region by integrating graduate teaching and learning with scientific research in the fields of Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, Humanities, Public Administration and Development Economics. The DI is licensed as a national institution of higher education by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar.

The mission of the Psychology program is “to train world-class academics through equipping students with a strong research foundation and the professional skills necessary to understand human behavior and to apply new knowledge, tools, and research to the solution of individual, societal, and organizational problems, particularly in Qatar and the Arab region. It also seeks to raise the level and quality of Arab scholarly contributions to the field of psychology and to prepare graduates for the unique challenges associated with today’s increasingly global, diverse, and shifting societies.”

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have (1) earned a Ph.D. in Social Psychology, (2) the capacity to teach at the graduate level, (3) published scholarly work in refereed peer-reviewed journals commensurate with their academic rank, and (4) demonstrated an ability to conduct research and offer services in diverse communities. Although not required, preference will be given to those who have a good command of the Arabic language or a strong interest in research and practice in the Arab world.

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant should be able to teach in a minimum of two substantive areas: statistics, research methods, stereotyping and prejudice, organizational psychology, and social change, as well as more specialized courses in culture, intergroup relations, and/or special populations (due to war, poverty, or displacement). The applicant would also serve in intra and inter disciplinary teaching, research, and related activities, such as academic advisement, field instructions, and supervision of students’ capstone projects.

How to Apply:

Applications should include: (1) a detailed letter of application; (2) a curriculum vitae; and (3) three names of senior faculty who can provide letters of reference. Additional material may be requested at a later stage.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. To apply, send your documents via email to careers@dohainstitute.edu.qa.
