 Community Learning Manager

Top Five Reasons to Work at the Analyst Institute

The Analyst Institute helps progressive change-makers win big fights, by figuring out what really works in politics and social justice organizing. We’re a great team to join. Here’s why.

1. You’ll have impact, and know it. The Analyst Institute may be a rigorous research institute, but we don’t care about knowledge for its own sake. We’re in a privileged position between data analytics and the frontlines, and we combine the best of both to have real-world impact.

2. Learn lots, and quickly. The Analyst Institute runs dozens of research projects at a time, and the Community Learning Manager will touch all those projects. So you’ll get to drink from a firehose of learnings, and build your expertise in the field.

3. Center of a powerful hub. In addition to doing our own original research, we convene a powerful community of progressive innovators fighting the good fight alongside us. So you’ll have a first-hand view of the latest developments in the field.

4. Get to know the progressive movement. From racial justice to labor to the environment to LGBT rights to electoral campaigns and everything in between, you’ll have broad of exposure to many progressive issues and campaigns. If you’re not a one-issue person, you’ll feel at home here.

5. Brilliant co-workers who have your back. We’re not a huge team, but we’re a strong team. We’re all in this for the same reason – to make progressive change – so we build each other up, support each other, and put our mission above our egos. We’re friendly nerds.

Right now, we’re looking for Community Learning Manager, to aggregate all of the knowledge our side builds up through experiments and spread these learnings throughout the community.

The Community Learning Manager is critical to the success of Democrats and progressives because the more campaigns and organizations that have access to the most recent intelligence, the more often we’ll succeed.

As Community Learning Manager, you will be responsible for a mix of research and outreach:

● You’ll need to have a passion for answering challenging questions because you’ll be responsible for responding to the community’s questions about what works, what doesn’t, whom to target, how, and why.
● You enjoy reading the latest scholarly articles and working papers to understand the cutting edge of voter outreach programs and experiments. You’ll combine that knowledge with our community’s research to derive a holistic view of various political and civic programs.
● You’ll organize Analyst Group community meetings, where hundreds of practitioners share their research and we all learn from one another. You’ll want to think critically about the themes these meetings are built around in the context of the election cycle and what topics people are most thirsty for.
● You’ll manage our weekly AG Digest, sharing new research with the Analyst Group community and representing the Analyst Institute to the progressive data community.
● You’ll catalog and organize past research in an easily searchable format. Archive systems internal to the Analyst Institute already exist, so you’ll take over management of those. You’ll also be tasked with leading the development of a community-facing system on our website, where we proactively answer the most common questions about political and civic programs.
● You’ll produce literature reviews and meta-analyses of past experiments (both those conducted by academics and those conducted at the Analyst Institute) for partner organizations.
● You’ll invent new strategies for training and empowering the progressive analytics community.

Qualifications:
● Excellent organizational skills. You will be combining information on the same topic from myriad sources, and you’ll need to document your aggregation for others to view.
● Strong knowledge of the existing research of voter outreach and political experimentation.
● A passion for helping others find the answers they seek.
● The ability to communicate complicated social scientific research clearly through writing, and to translate statistical research into easy-to-understand “takeaways”.
● An understanding of statistics such that you can: (a) identify the strengths and weaknesses of a study and (b) conduct a meta analysis based on studies’ reported findings.
● Passion for progressive politics is necessary; experience with political campaigns or issue organizing is a big plus.

Preferred experience:
● An academic background in political science or other social sciences is preferred, but isn’t mandatory if you have learned social science skills on the job.
● Web development skills would be helpful in order to build a user-friendly platform for content
● Experience conducting meta-analyses and other regression analysis is a plus.
● Comfort with using version control systems.

Location: The Analyst Institute is based Washington D.C., near McPherson Square. However, remote applicants will be considered, provided that semi-regular travel to Washington, DC, is feasible.

Compensation and benefits: The Analyst Institute pays very competitive salaries, offers generous bonus structures, and a very generous benefits package.

To apply: Send an email with “Community Learning Manager” in the subject line, a cover letter as the body of the email, and your resume attached to jobs@analystinstitute.org.Include contact information for three references. We will ask you to complete at least one task to assess your skills, conduct multiple interviews with you. Resume review will begin in late October.
