About Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences (SICS)

Established in 2007, the Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences (SICS) is a research institute within the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and its mission is to develop clinical and translational research programmes in key disease areas.

SICS is distinguished by its focus on clinical sciences and the use of innovative approaches and technologies that enable the efficient and effective study of human health and diseases. The clinical scientists in SICS conduct the full spectrum of “bench to bedside” research activities in metabolic diseases (including diabetes, obesity and insulin resistance), pathways to normal growth and development (including cognitive and behavioural development), and nutritional sciences. The institute aims to attract, train and nurture clinician-scientists and to develop joint programmes with universities, academic medical centres, government hospitals and research institutes.

Research Fellow (Dr Bobby Cheon’s Lab)
(Job Ref: BMSI/SICS/BC/RF/20012015)

The successful candidate will join a team of researchers at the new Clinical Nutrition Research Centre (CNRC) (http://www.nutritionresearch.edu.sg/). The CNRC undertakes research on a wide range of topics, including energy regulation, body composition, carbohydrate/lipid/protein metabolism and aspects of food intake, and human growth and development.

Responsibilities:

-Design and execute research studies investigating social, cultural, and environmental influences on appetite, food preferences, and eating behaviours of infants, children and adults
-Perform systematic literature reviews on topics pertaining to food preferences/intake and nutrition
-Prepare research manuscripts and presentations
-Provide training and guidance of junior research staff on designing and implementing experiments, and interpreting results

Requirements:

-PhD in nutritional science, consumer behaviour or psychology with a research focus on food and eating
-Experience designing and implementing experiments on food preferences and intake
-Strong statistical and quantitative skills
-Successful record of research publications
-Good understanding of nutrition or food-related fields, and familiarity with research methods in these fields
-Excellent writing and oral presentation skills
-Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well independently as well as in a team
-Well-organized and close attention to detail
-Experience conducting research with children is desirable
