Bowdoin College seeks applicants for two tenure-track positions, each at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology to begin fall 2014. A Ph.D. is required, post-doctoral research and teaching experience are preferred. (1) A CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST whose research examines psychopathology and mental health with a focus on issues that may be influenced by social contexts, such as eating disorders, alcoholism, or stress management. (2) A SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGIST whose research examines either (a) interpersonal relationships and social decision-making with a focus on, for example, morality or self, or (b) intergroup relations, intergroup differences, and perception of groups with a focus on gender, race, religion, or culture. Teaching responsibilities for each position consist of four courses per year, including a core course (Introductory Psychology, Research Design in Psychology, or Data Analysis), an intermediate course in one’s discipline, a laboratory course and/or an advanced seminar in the candidate’s area of study. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education, the ability to sustain an active, productive research program, and readiness to mentor undergraduates in independent and honors research. The department believes that campus diversity contributes to student learning and is committed to the College’s goal to extend access to a Bowdoin education to an ever wider range of students.
