The Laboratory for Social Research in the Department of Sociology at Stanford University is searching for a full-time lab manager to start in Fall 2013. The position is a one year, fixed term appointment with the possibility of renewal or conversion to a continuing position. The lab manager will oversee the day-to-day research conducted in the lab by affiliated faculty (Karen Cook, Shelley Correll, Cecilia Ridgeway, and Robb Willer) and serve as the primary liaison between faculty, graduate students, postdocs and research assistants associated with the lab.

A major role of this position will be to build the infrastructure of the behavioral lab, including expanding the undergraduate subject pool and building a large online subject pool. Other duties will include the recruitment, training and supervision of undergraduate research assistants, drafting of IRB protocols for faculty research projects, management of study datasets, development and revision of computer programs, programming of surveys, working with private survey companies to set up large-scale, internet- or phone-based surveys, development and maintenance of a lab website, management and maintenance of lab equipment, materials and software, meeting with affiliated faculty and staff from various centers and institutes across campus and serving on advisory boards, assistance with and support in setting up conferences, booking travel, scheduling meetings for faculty affiliated with the lab, and other projects and duties as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

· Considerable experience in personnel management including recruiting, training and supervision of undergraduate research assistants
· An advanced degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related social sciences field
· A minimum of two years related research experience
· In-depth knowledge of research design and development of human subjects protocols
· Ability and experience in managing study datasets
· In-depth knowledge of computer software and hardware to be able to manage the purchase and maintenance of lab computers and associated technical software, along with survey and computer programming skills
· The ability to design surveys for local application and also to work with vendors to implement large-scale surveys
· Experience in professional website creation and maintenance
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Experience in building an undergraduate subject pool and also ability to build a large online subject pool.
