Applications are invited for the post of Laboratory Manager of the new Behavioural Research Laboratory at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), University of Manchester, UK. The lab is planned to open in autumn 2019. The post is tenable immediately for a period of two years. The role is an exciting opportunity to run the laboratory and contribute to its future development, becoming part of a new wave of research in the behavioural sciences.

You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in the Behavioural Sciences or a related field and have experience of supporting experimental research leading to the production of internationally recognised research in the behavioural sciences. Your expertise should include experimental research design and technical skills for conducting computer based experiments. You will have excellent communication skills and a track record of upholding high ethical standards in behavioural research. The ability to work independently on research duties and projects is essential. Prior experience completing applied research projects is desirable, as is experience with psychophysiological measurement (e.g., EDA/GSR, EEG, HRV, eye-tracking).

About the post

The primary responsibilities of the post are to help researchers in AMBS and wider Faculty of Humanities to run experimental studies and collect behavioural data for world-class research. Alliance Manchester Business School is one of the world’s leading research-led business schools and you will work in the newly remodelled AMBS building in Manchester (https://www.mbs.ac.uk/about/our-new-campus/). AMBS academics undertake leading-edge research in areas including organizational behaviour, behavioural economics, behavioural strategy, marketing, and management science. As the Lab Manager, you will work with academics across these areas to run innovative, high quality research studies. Using your background in behavioural science and experimental methods, you will work with researchers on research design, measurement, and implementation. You will manage the daily running of research studies in the lab, including recruiting participants, managing and developing the lab’s hardware and software (including set-up of equipment for studies and developing new technical capabilities for innovative research applications). You will also collaborate with colleagues on developing the internal and external profile of the lab to build a network of researchers that will facilitate new projects and studies, including potential collaborations with commercial partners.
