 Need help with theory for social networking

I'm interested in how social networking sites like Facebook, online forums, and Twitter affect people's personalities. People seem to change completely between the Internet and the real world. So I want to write a thesis paper about this phenomenon, but after searching the library and Internet, I cannot find a suitable theory or method.

Can somebody shed some light on this?
