 Illusion of Control

I got this prompt for an essay two days ago, but I don't really understand what the professor is asking. I need some help finding some examples or ideas.

All of us like to believe that we are in control of our own actions. However, social psychologists have often found that the attitudes, actions, and even the mere presence of other individuals can influence our behaviour.
Discuss how other people and/or social norms affect behaviour in the areas of attitude-behaviour consistency and persuasion.

Thanks.
