 |  |  | Posted by: Anila Balkissoon Institution: Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues October 24, 2012, 1:48 am |  | NEW EDITOR for Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy (ASAP) 2014-2017 Nominations are now being sought for the new editor of Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy (ASAP), a journal sponsored by the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). SPSSI is a professional community of scientists from psychology and related fields who share a common interest in applying psychological theory and practice to social problems involving groups, communities, and nations. The Mission: ASAP is an electronic and print journal is an outlet for timely and innovative psychological and related social science scholarship with implications for social action and policy. ASAP is a forum for publishing new work as well as discussing alternative approaches to important contemporary social problems. By encouraging publication of well-written peer-reviewed work, the journal serves a global audience that includes policy-makers and advocates, as well as social scientists, students, and the public at large. Unlike conventional print journals, ASAP articles are published electronically as soon as soon as they are accepted. Where appropriate, papers are compiled into online virtual issues together with peer commentary and/or other papers on closely related topics. At the end of each year a print version is made available to all institutions that subscribe to the Journal of Social Issues. Submissions in any content area related to SPSSI’s goals are considered. They are evaluated in terms of scholarly excellence as well as their relevance to social problems, social action, and policy. ASAP has an international editorial board with expertise in social science research and the application of that research to real world issues. Until that rating is published, the best available index of quality for the Journal is the SCIMAGO bibliometric database compiled by Elsevier, in which ASAP is ranked in the top 15% (48/372) of journals in its category (http://bit.ly/ASAPImpactFactor). Editorial tenure and skills: Given the timely nature of its content, the Editor-elect is expected to work with the current Editor as soon as s/he is appointed to solicit manuscripts. S/he will start as Editor-elect in July 2013 and will become masthead editor for 4 years starting in January 2014 through December 2017.The editor will need scientific, editorial, interpersonal, technological, and organizational abilities. He or she will advise authors of potential articles on their relevance to the journal, select an advisory board and peer reviewers to evaluate manuscripts, and shepherd papers through the online portal in a timely yet careful way. The Editor will also work with ASAP’s publisher, Wiley-Blackwell, to ensure the timely publication of articles, features, and book reviews; attend SPSSI Council meetings; and prepare various editorial reports. The Editor may also solicit individual articles or sets of related articles on topics of special interest to ASAP readers. In the case of self-nominations candidates should email a copy of their CV, a two-page statement describing their previous editorial experience, vision and views about the future direction of this journal, and names of two referees. Review of applications will start on December 3, 2012, and will continue until the position is filled.
