Postdoctoral Position in Organizational Behavior and Health

The University of Pittsburgh Health Policy Institute, in partnership with the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, seeks applications for a post-doctoral position focused on health care organization and management. The position involves participation in an active research program investigating team behavior in hospitals and intensive care units with a focus on team dynamics, team learning, and conflict management. The fellowship is slated to be a two-year position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2016.

The overall research goal is to improve the quality and safety of health care through development of novel organizational interventions that target health care teams. The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to steward several ongoing projects on hospital team structures and functions with an emphasis on quantitative approaches. Specific research activities include the management and analysis of large data sets using a variety of computational and analytic strategies, as well as supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.

Applicants must have completed a PhD in organizational behavior and theory or a related social science discipline (e.g., psychology, sociology). Preference will be given to candidates with a research background in areas relevant to understanding decisions and outcomes in hospitals, including group processes, conflict management, evidence-based management, organizational learning, networks, and related areas. The fellow will work in close collaboration with Taya Cohen, Laurie Weingart, and Brandy Aven of Carnegie Mellon University, and with Jeremy Kahn of University of Pittsburgh.

To be considered for the position, please submit (1) curriculum vitae; (2) a cover letter and/or research statement; (3) up to three research papers; (4) three letters of recommendation.

Application materials should be sent to Jeremy Kahn, MD, MSc, at jmk190@pitt.edu.

If you have any questions about the application or the position, please contact Taya Cohen, PhD (tcohen@cmu.edu). To receive consideration, an application must be complete by March 25, 2016.
