The Social Psychology and Health Program of the Department of Psychology at the University of Houston seeks to hire a tenure track (open rank) faculty member whose major research interests integrate health and social psychology. Commitment to excellence in research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level, and in supervision of graduate research is expected. Successful applicants at the entry level must demonstrate evidence of research productivity and potential for success in securing external funding; more senior applicants must demonstrate excellence in research and teaching, and have a record of securing external funding for their research. Candidates who can interface with the existing emphases of the program in health, social cognition, or close relationships are especially encouraged to apply, as are candidates who can interface with the department’s graduate programs in Clinical/Clinical Neuropsychology, Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The University of Houston is located in the heart of the nation’s fourth largest city, and is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse public universities in the nation, with roughly 36,000 students on the main campus. Ten minutes away is the world’s largest medical center, the Texas Medical Center (TMC), with whom we are linked though federal grants, research institutes, faculty appointments, student practicum placements, and research. Rice University, with whom we also have long-term connections, is nearby as well. We also maintain extensive partnerships with industries, school districts, and mental health groups in the greater Houston area for research, training, and consulting.
