PSYCHOLOGY, FALL, 2007. The Department of Psychology at HUNTER COLLEGE OF THE CITY UNIVERSITIY OF NEW YORK (CUNY) invites applications for three tenure track positions, described below. A strong research program is essential for each. The individuals hired must have Ph.D. degrees and active programs of research that can enlist undergraduate and graduate students. Postdoctoral research experience is a plus. The potential to obtain external funding is necessary for junior rank and a history of such funding required for more senior candidates. Existing strengths are in areas of developmental psychopathology; gender disparities; social, cognitive and linguistic processes and development; community psychology; behavioral ecology and neuropharmacology. Applicants in those areas are particularly welcome, as are applicants whose research interests include areas such as trauma, infancy or at-risk groups, complement those strengths. Special attention will be given to candidates whose research involves urban, ethnically diverse populations, and who are sensitive to the cultural dimensions of people’s experience. Responsibilities for all three positions include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas related to the candidate’scholarly and research interests, advising students and supervising graduate and undergraduate student research. An appointment to the CUNY doctoral faculty is possible and credentials appropriate for that appointment are desirable.

(1) Neuroscience. Neuroethologist/Neurophysiologist with emphasis on analyses of neural mechanisms underlying behavior to join a very active group of neuroscientists. Experience in conservation to participate in a thriving Master’s program in Animal Behavior and Conservation is desirable. Assistant or Associate Professor rank.

(2) Autism. Clinical or developmental psychologist with specific research interests and experience in the etiology and/or treatment of autistic disorders to join a prospective center for the study of autistic disorders. This prospective center will consist of scientists from different disciplines who will work together to serve as a focal point for a College-wide initiative on autism and related spectrum disorders. All ranks will be considered.

(3) Area open. The successful candidate for the third position will be determined less by topic area and more by quality of the candidate. The possible areas of interest include animal behavior and conservation, animal and human interaction, social cognition, community psychology, developmental psychology or clinical research. Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Exceptional candidates can be considered at the Full Professor level.

Salary is commensurate with experience and will be determined by the CUNY salary structure.
