Post Doctoral Fellow: Research Scientist
Two year appointment, renewable for one additional year if funds permit.

The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) seeks a junior-level social scientist. This research faculty position will help implement and evaluate research-based practices for increasing participation of women in information technology. NCWIT is a national social reform movement with academic, corporate, and non-profit partners committed to increasing the female participation in IT. We seek to increase the numbers of girls and women in all types and levels of professional IT positions and improve the quality of their school and work lives. NCWIT is dedicated to harvesting and disseminating research-based effective practices in ways that are easy for our partners to implement and evaluate in their organizations. This position is ideal for the person who desires to put high-level research skills to work in an applied environment. The ideal candidate will:

-- have a Ph.D. in organization studies in sociology, communication, anthropology, education, management, social psychology, industrial psychology, or related field (we are sorry, but we cannot consider “all but dissertation” applicants);
-- have deep and current understanding of women’s issues with respect to organizational life, especially women in technology;
-- be experienced in survey design and relevant analytical methods and have some knowledge of qualitative research methodology;
-- have strong literature review skills and the ability to translate and synthesize research articles into lay language;
-- be able to set and keep deadlines independently, but thrive in a team environment;
-- be located either at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA or the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO.

NCWIT Job Title: Research Scientist
This position is equivalent to a post-doctorate position. It will be funded through grants and gifts, though grant writing will not be required.

The position will be administratively located in the Department of Science, Technology, & Society at the University of Virginia, or in NCWIT at the University of Colorado. The person hired will collaborate with J. McGrath Cohoon and Lecia Barker, Senior Research Scientists at NCWIT, and work under their direction. Cohoon is located in Charlottesville; Barker is located in Boulder.

Twelve month salary: $48,000.
