SUMMARY: The American Red Cross seeks a psychosocial support program advisor who will work with the regional psychosocial advisor based out of India to provide technical assistance and oversight to our global portfolio of psychosocial support programs (PSP) and build up a cadre of psychosocial support providers within International Services that can respond and set up services in emergencies. For the American Red Cross, PSP programs typically include psychological first aid, school and community based activities to rebuild social and emotional bonds and address priority concerns, as well as training of RC, teachers, community members and disaster response agents at many levels in the provisional of basic psychosocial support.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The PSP advisor will co-lead the development and oversight of the American Red Cross international psychosocial strategy, helping define best practice within the RC movement and the wider response community. The advisor will lead the process for developing evaluation tools and methodology for existing interventions as well as be responsible for compiling a ready-to-adapt PSP package that includes assessment and training tools, sample proposals, staffing requirements, and evaluation tools. The position will assist International Red Cross Movement partners in strengthening their capacity to design and implement psychosocial support programs, and liaise with international, government, non-government agencies to collaborate in promoting high-quality and complementary psychosocial interventions. The advisor and field teams may also lead and support the development of donor proposals

QUALIFICATIONS: M.D., Ph.D. Psychologist/Social Worker, or equivalent work experience, with proven background in community and/or school based interventions. Licensed counselor. At least 5 years of experience in the field in mental health or psychosocial support programs internationally, preferably in South and Southeast Asia. Proven experience in cross cultural research, program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Knowledge of Hindi, Urdu, Bahasa Indonesia or Thai preferable.
