The Social Psychology and Health Program of the Department of Psychology at the University of Houston is seeking a new Director of the Social Psychology and Health program at the Associate or Full Professor level. This is one of four positions being sought for the coming year as part of a major expansion of the department (other positions include Clinical, Industrial/Organizational, and Interpersonal Conflict/Violence). Candidates for all positions should demonstrate a record predictive of future scholarly productivity, ability to generate external funding, and capability of contributing to undergraduate and doctoral programs. This position requires strong leadership skills, an interdisciplinary vision of the future of social psychology, and a strong research program in Health Psychology, broadly defined. The Social Psychology and Health program has strengths in both health and close relationships. We will consider applicants from each area of research, but we especially welcome applicants who demonstrate an interest in integrating these domains, for example, in the area of prevention, and the physiological, social and interpersonal aspects of health. Our Social faculty includes Linda K. Acitelli, Interim Director, Richard I. Evans, C. Raymond Knee, Roy Lachman, and Kirsten Poehlmann. Our Psychology Department also has programs in Clinical/Clinical Neuropsychology, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Houston is a multicultural center and the fourth largest city in the USA. Its world-class academic, medical, research, and business resources are important to the University of Houston and the Department of Psychology. Our department has extensive connections with the Texas Medical Center and partnerships with industries, school districts, and community groups in the greater Houston area for both research and training. Successful candidates would be expected to teach courses in social, personality, and/or health psychology compatible with his or her interests, direct graduate research, produce demonstrated evidence of successful research productivity, and exhibit a commitment to service.
