The University of Kentucky seeks a PhD Behavioral Scientist to serve as an HIV Prevention Research Coordinator of projects headed by Dr. Rick Zimmerman. The successful candidate should have a strong background in his/her field of Health, Clinical, Counseling, or Social Psychology, Health Communication, Medical Sociology, Public Health, Health Education, Nursing or related field, and should be familiar with survey and/or quasi-experimental research methodology and data analysis. Candidates should also have expertise regarding HIV risk reduction interventions, preferably with youth and/or rural populations or communities.

The PRIMARY responsibilities will be to: 1) assist in the implementation and evaluation of large-scale, theory-based quasi-experimental school and media-based (radio,TV, small media) interventions targeted at youth who are high sensation-seekers and impulsive decision-makers in rural Kentucky, 2) coordinate the evaluation of HIV prevention projects in the state of Kentucky, focused primarily on men who have sex with men, African-American women in inner cities, and injecting drug users.

ADDITIONAL tasks may include: interaction with health educators, peer training, survey design, data analysis, conducting focus groups, assisting in design of school-based curriculum materials and radio and television Public Service Announcements, participation in a National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse-funded project targeted at high-risk urban youth, writing of journal articles as co- or senior author, and assisting in the writing of grant proposals.
