Assistant Professor - Social Psychology and Global Justice
Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto
Closing Date: November 3, 2016

The Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of social psychology and justice. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2017.

The School seeks a scholar with an emerging or exceptional record of research excellence. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in any field, with a focus on social psychology and justice, by date of appointment or shortly thereafter, or have completed all requirements for the awarding of a Ph.D. Evidence of excellence in research and teaching is necessary, as demonstrated through strong letters of reference, a research statement, teaching evaluations, and the teaching dossier also submitted here as part of the application. Candidates must provide strong evidence of research of an internationally competitive calibre, as evidenced by publications in leading journals in the field, presentations at significant conferences, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing.

The successful candidate will be expected to mount an active, externally-funded program of research by leveraging the ample opportunities for collaboration at the University, and be committed to both undergraduate and graduate education. Applicants must show well-articulated and innovative research programs and teaching interests that speak to the broad field of global justice. Areas of specialization may include work on cultural change and justice, prejudice and conflict resolution, the influence of social norms on behavior or institutional change, post-conflict intergroup relations, identity and demands for justice, or related areas. Other areas that combine attention to social psychology and justice are also welcome. Applicants must have an excellent theoretical knowledge of the core literature in their disciplines.

The successful candidate will be appointed in the Munk School of Global Affairs. The School’s professional Master of Global Affairs (MGA) program is an exciting new professional graduate degree designed to equip exceptional students with knowledge and skills for careers in government and international institutions, the private sector, and NGOs. The Trudeau Centre for Peace, Conflict and Justice hosts an undergraduate program that attracts outstanding students. The successful candidate would be expected to teach in the MGA and Peace, Conflict and Justice programs. Collaboration with colleagues in disciplinary departments of the University of Toronto is encouraged.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Toope, Director, Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto, at munkschool.director@utoronto.ca . Letters must be submitted by the closing date of November 3rd, 2016.

The Munk School of Global Affairs is home to the Global Justice Lab, an interdisciplinary research laboratory focusing on justice systems under stress worldwide, whether that pressure comes from social change, crime and violence, political demands, or organizational dilemmas. Examples of the Lab’s current projects include global responses to crime and violence, innovation in urban systems of justice, international human rights practice, and evidence-based approaches to national security. The Lab engages in basic and applied research, including collaborative work with professional peers in government.
